
Prof. Omer T. Njajou, PhD, DSc, is a seasoned public health expert and epidemiologist with over two decades of experience in global health, One Health, and health systems strengthening. He brings to Global Health Shield (GHS) an exceptional track record of leadership in epidemic preparedness, surveillance, and policy advisory across Africa, Europe, and the United States. His professional background includes academic and technical roles at Erasmus University Rotterdam, the University of California San Francisco, the University of Minnesota, and DAI Global Health.
He has led and contributed to major international initiatives such as the USAID One Health Workforce, FCDO’s Tackling Deadly Diseases in Africa (TDDAP), and the USAID STRIDES project, focusing on strengthening infectious disease detection, integrated surveillance, and workforce capacity. He currently supports climate and health modeling under FEWS NET program, applying a One Health approach to improve early warning and decision-making systems.
Prof. Njajou’s expertise spans epidemiological research, pandemic prevention, and implementation of International Health Regulations (IHR 2005). He has advised organizations including WHO, UNAIDS, OCEAC, and the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute on the development of national and regional strategies for pandemic preparedness and response in Central and West Africa. A prolific researcher, he has authored over 35 peer-reviewed publications on epidemiology, genetics, and One Health, and serves on the Pandemic Fund Technical Advisory Panel. Fluent in English and French, Prof. Njajou is recognized for his ability to bridge science, policy, and practice in advancing health security and resilient health systems across Africa and beyond.
He holds a PhD in Epidemiology & Biostatistics, a D.Sc. in Genetic Epidemiology, and an MSc in Epidemiology & Biostatistics from Erasmus University Rotterdam, The Netherlands; an MSc in Medical Parasitology & Entomology and a BSc in Medical Laboratory Sciences from the University of Jos, Nigeria; and a BSc in Biochemistry from the University of Yaoundé, Cameroon.
