Dr. Thierry Nyatanyi is a seasoned public health leader with over 18 years of impactful experience designing and leading complex global health programs across the Africa Region. As the Founder and CEO of Global Health Shield, he brings visionary leadership and deep technical expertise to advance health systems strengthening, pandemic preparedness, and strategic private sector engagement in global health.

Dr. Nyatanyi has played a pivotal role in shaping and executing high-level initiatives at the nexus of health security, immunization, laboratory systems, health information systems, supply chain, and medical logistics. He has worked extensively with national governments, regional organizations and economic communities and consulted with global development agencies such as USAID, WHO, Africa CDC, FAO, and JICA to build resilient, responsive, and sustainable health systems that are both locally led and globally aligned.

Renowned for his collaborative approach and commitment to capacity building, Dr. Nyatanyi excels in mobilizing political will, aligning donor investments with government priorities, and fostering multisectoral partnerships that drive sustainable impact. His ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments has enabled him to lead successful collaborations between governments, private industry, and development partners, resulting in stronger health outcomes and improved system performance.

Dr. Nyatanyi’s country experience spans Cameroon, Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Ethiopia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and the United States, where he has contributed to national and regional efforts to strengthen public health systems and improve health security.

His leadership and service have earned him multiple commendations from the U.S. Department of State for outstanding contributions to global health diplomacy and service.

He holds a Doctor of Medicine and a Master of Public Health from the University of Rwanda, a Master of Medical Sciences in Global Health Delivery from Harvard Medical School, and an MBA from the University of Louisiana at Shreveport.
