We strengthen national and regional capacity to prepare for, detect, and respond to public health emergencies. Our work focuses on enhancing preparedness systems, rapid response capabilities, and cross-sectoral coordination to address current and emerging health threats. In close partnership with governments, regional bodies, and development partners, we support the implementation of the International Health Regulations (IHR), the establishment and operationalization of Public Health Emergency Operations Centers (PHEOCs), and the development of multisectoral emergency response plans.

  • Health Systems & Workforce Strengthening: Building institutional capacity for public health preparedness, workforce development, emergency response, and operational readiness at national and subnational levels.
  • Policy, Governance & National Planning: Supporting governments to integrate One Health into national policies, conduct Joint External Evaluations (JEEs), and develop and implement National Action Plans for Health Security (NAPHS).
  • Surveillance, Preparedness & Response: Enhancing Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response (IDSR) systems for zoonotic and epidemic-prone diseases, and supporting emergency simulations, outbreak response plans, and early warning systems.
  • Biosafety, Biosecurity & Laboratory Systems: Strengthening laboratory systems and developing biosafety/biosecurity policies, risk assessments, and safe management of high-consequence pathogens.
  • AMR & Food Safety: Supporting antimicrobial resistance (AMR) mitigation through policy, surveillance, and stewardship programs, while promoting food safety standards across human, animal, and environmental health sectors.
